ServerLIFT® News | February 2024

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow on February 2, offering the hope of an early spring. So far, that hope has not materialized.😉 Data centers are unfazed by one hope deferred, and with that in mind, we offer some possibly hopeful news you can use. 1. Improve Power Usage Effectiveness Want to make your data center more green and efficient? Power usage effectiveness (PUE) is a good place to start. Discover five ways you can increase your PUE. 2. AI, Data Centers, Nuclear Energy? Can you imagine a data center with its own built-in nuclear reactor? AI may make that a reality because the electric power grid isn’t able […]
Repeat Customers Still Need Our Expert Advice

A customer reached out to us via our web chat asking for pricing on another SL-350X® manual data center lift. They already have two, but will need more in the next year or so. They have our SL-1000X® Super-Duty lift at another campus, therefore they believed they did not have the space for an electric lift at this location. We explained that the SL-350X® manual lift and the SL-500X® electric lift are the exact same base design (it’s the SL-1000X® Super-Duty lift that is bigger), so if they did want the ease of a one-touch lifting solution rather than a manual hand-cranked lift at this site, they could certainly get […]
Do You Need To Hire 2 Technicians To Move Equipment? The Short Answer Is No…

We had a meeting with an IT engineer who provides installation/removal of servers and IT equipment to his customers. He mentioned that for most jobs they require two technicians for these installation/removal projects. They are getting push back from their customers, who are asking if it is necessary to send out two techs. The answer, this engineer was glad to hear, is “no.” With a ServerLIFT®-brand data center lift, he can now confidently quote one technician to go out to each job. Which, of course, also means he can send the second technician to another job, increasing the number of jobs he can take on at any given time. With […]
Heavy HPC Servers? No Problem At All.

We were contacted by a customer via our webchat needing a few lifts by February for very heavy 300kg High Performance Computing servers for the HPC data center they are building internationally. Another requirement was that the lifts could go through standard-sized doorways, which of course ours do. We recommended our SL-1000X® Super-Duty lift, which can lift, transport, and install equipment up to 1000 pounds, along with our GT-1000XTM Glide Roller Table (so they can smoothly slide those heavy HPC servers into a rack), and the LE-1000XTM Lift Extension (so they can effortlessly remove those weighty servers out of their shipping boxes!). They also have a data center in the U.S., […]

Welcome to the new year! As these new initiatives come on line, we will announce them here, so be on the lookout! 1. 7 Common Data Center Threats Data center threats abound because of the sheer volume of valuable data and equipment they contain. Cybersecurity threats loom large, but there are other common threats that also lurk in the shadows. 2. Microsoft Data Center Construction Includes WI Pumpkin Farm The purchase totals 1000+ acres, but 407 acres belonged to a […]
What Are Our Most Popular Attachments?

Our most popular attachments are the GT-1000X™ Glide Table and the LE-500X™ Lift Extension. Here’s why. The Glide Table has a series of rollers that let your servers glide back and forth over its surface for nearly frictionless equipment transfers on either side of an aisle. Especially great for the more narrow aisles. The Glide Table attaches to the equipment platform of all ServerLIFT-brand data center lifts. The LE-500X™ lift extension takes all the back-breaking effort out of removing equipment from boxes, with slings that are fed under the server or switch in the box, and then, with the push of a button on your SL-500X®, lifts that heavy equipment […]
Special Circumstances? No Problem!

A reseller partner reached out to get a quote for one of our lifts. One of their customers needed a lift that would be small enough to fit in their elevator and in their tiny server room. They also needed it to lift servers into racks that are 45U high. This reseller knew exactly who to turn to for a lifting solution for their customer! ServerLIFT® brand data center lifts have a slim 24” footprint, so they fit in the most narrow aisles. Our lifts fit through any standard-sized doorway or elevator. And, our most popular models lift up to 52U. It was a no-brainer that this customer needed a […]
Customer Problem: People Borrow His Lifts And He Has A Hard Time Getting Them Back!

A customer called in to let us know that he is passing our contact information over to his colleague so that the colleague can purchase a data center lift from us. Our customer said that he has three of our lifts and everyone always borrows them. “I have a hard time getting them back, because everyone loves them so much,” he said. Made our day, and we did, of course, reach out to his colleague. Maybe we can turn this into a win-win-win!
Manual Or Motorized Data Center Lift?

Yes, we make both a manual lift, which is just as rugged and safe for your data center equipment moves as our motorized lifts. But we sell more motorized lifts. Why? It comes down to frequency and quantity. If you have a small data center and you move equipment very infrequently, our manual lift, which lifts up to 350 pounds using a hand-cranking mechanism, might be just right. You’ll still get a solid lift that is safe to operate (no pinch points, stable on its own without strapping to a rack, dependable brakes, and precision alignment functionality). But if you are moving equipment more than “occasionally,” and your equipment is […]
How Attachments Can Smooth Out Every Move

It’s exciting for us to tell new lift owners about attachments that can make their data center moves even more effortless. Got a heavy server that you need to install in a rack? Watch it glide, smooth as silk, into position, without any appreciable effort on your part. Our Glide Table takes all the friction out of installs. Need to get a heavy piece of equipment out of its shipping box, so you can move it to its proper location? With our Lift Extension, a single operator can remove new servers from their boxes, just by attaching the straps and pressing buttons. Do you use “j-shaped” drop-in rails in your […]
