With this thought in mind, here is a summary of 2023 trends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Artificial Intelligence (AI)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As AI develops, it is revolutionizing the way that major industries operate on a day-to-day basis. These AI solutions will need powerful hardware to operate efficiently. Data centers are preparing for AI to become ubiquitous in expected and unexpected ways, and are planning now to be able to support multiple high-resource AI solutions at a time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interestingly, AI is playing a more prominent role in data center operations this year. AI optimization programs can identify areas in data center operations that need to be optimized so that actions can be taken to solve the problems.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesagenext.com\/blog\/technology-trends-transforming-data-centers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google eliminated 40% of cooling costs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by allowing AI to control its cooling systems. That\u2019s just one example of what could be possible with facility-wide AI optimization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, there are also automation opportunities that become available with advancing AI platforms. Where once simple bots handled only the most repetitive and easily programmable tasks, now AI can add context and decision-making skills to the process. As a result, automation efforts may advance dramatically in 2023, freeing time and energy for data center teams and business owners to focus on more important, human-centric tasks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Virtualisation<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Software virtualization enables servers to work with more than one system at a time by dividing data storage, processing power, and other elements into segments. In turn, running multiple virtual systems on one physical machine helps lower costs and keep resource usage controlled.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Virtualization may increase as many companies and data centers fight rising costs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your data center invests heavily in operating virtual systems, this could open up a new opportunity to market your data center as a Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC). This may attract a new tier of clients who prioritize cost-efficient operations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Edge Computing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The widespread adoption of 5G, IoT devices, AI programs, and other advanced technologies increases the demand for high-speed, low-latency processing. An increasing number of data center operators are setting up tiny, mostly self-sufficient data centers near large pockets of clients to provide edge computing where it\u2019s needed most.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hybrid Clouds And Multi-Cloud Environments<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When companies first began moving to the cloud, they were eager to \u201clift and shift\u201d all their applications to the cloud to take full advantage of its benefits. However, lifting and shifting legacy applications to the cloud is costly because they have to be rewritten for the cloud. For companies that rely on legacy applications, a less expensive solution is on-premise servers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many companies with legacy applications opt for a solution in the middle, between all-cloud and all-on-premise. These are in the form of hybrid or multi-cloud environments, which enable clients and data center managers to decide which applications run where.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expect the growing adoption of hybrid and multi-cloud environments to affect data centers in the following ways:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applications will have to be updated to support hybridization and multi-cloud solutions.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More infrastructure will be needed to support horizontal traffic between the cloud and on-premise setups.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Security will need to be tightened for on-premise setups.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New intra-company guidelines will need to be developed to determine which applications and workloads run in the cloud and which run onsite.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demand For Flexibility<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many businesses are taking an \u00e0 la carte approach to their computing needs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkworld.com\/article\/3683312\/data-center-networking-trends-to-watch-for-2023.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Networking experts believe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the picture of what this flexibility looks like will come into focus as future applications are developed. It\u2019s unlikely, for example, that business owners will spend the time and money developing applications that can slide seamlessly back and forth between the cloud and an on-premise facility. What\u2019s more probable is that new applications will be developed with either the cloud or an on-premise facility in mind, and they\u2019ll be optimized to take advantage of one or the other.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forward-looking data center managers are exploring ways to capitalize on their clients\u2019 desires for more flexibility and control.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Financial Considerations<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the primary drawbacks of operating in the cloud is the cost. Cloud solutions initially seemed cheaper than running an on-premise data center, but this has not been the reality in some cases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because cloud costs are tied to services usage, they can skyrocket when a business picks up a heavyweight customer or releases a new software product. If software development, marketing, pricing, and tier packaging are all optimized and well-aligned, the increase in revenue <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">devrait <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">outweigh the rising costs. Many companies, however, are learning that their production process is not perfectly optimized, and some products, features, and customers cost far more than the generated revenue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To solve this problem, primarily cloud-based businesses will need to have their IT and finance departments track the unit economics of their applications and optimize them to control growing costs. For data centers, this means keeping cost considerations at the forefront and providing clients with opportunities to maintain control over their spending.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S\u00e9curit\u00e9<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The amount of data that exists today is beyond human comprehension. And yet, the global volume of data expands exponentially every year. If the growth rate continues at its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fintechnews.org\/data-center-trends-predictions-for-2023-and-beyond\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">current rate of 40%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, there will be 180 zettabytes of stored data by the year 2025. To put that into perspective, that\u2019s an 18 followed by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">twenty-two <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">zeroes. That\u2019s an astonishing amount of data.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When a company\u2019s data is stored in the cloud, typically the cloud provider takes responsibility for maintaining top-notch security. So much data makes this challenging; that challenge is\u00a0 deepening as more data is added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With hybrid models, data will increasingly be split between the cloud and on-premise data centers. Security measures must protect data hosted onsite and in the cloud, but it also needs to extend to data transferred back and forth between the two. In practice, this means more robust security measures across the board, from physical security to digital security.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data center managers are adopting new solutions, such as drones and facial or optical recognition, to protect their facilities, and implementing \u201czero-trust\u201d protocols that prevent connections to the network without specific permissions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jobs and Opportunities<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These trends point to a single theme: growth. Though growth comes with challenges, it\u2019s a good sign for the industry overall. Data center jobs are expected to rise by 2 percent in 2023 and by 3 percent through the end of 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Positions with the most growth include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Project managers<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Production leaders<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Computer engineers<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facility engineers<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data center technicians<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electricians<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clearly, it\u2019s an exciting time to be in the industry!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All this growth and change means you might be due for some hardware upgrades in your facility.
