Spotlight-Rechenzentrum: <\/strong><\/h1>\n

EBay - Projekt Mercury <\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"Bau<\/p>\n

Warum Phoenix? Warum sollte jemand ein Rechenzentrum bauen<\/a> in der Mitte einer W\u00fcste, die Temperaturen von bis zu 119F \u00b0 erreicht? Und wie um alles in der Welt werden sie es effizient k\u00fchlen? Ich wei\u00df, das waren die ersten Fragen, die mir in den Sinn kamen, als ich zum ersten Mal von EBays neuem Project Mercury-Rechenzentrum h\u00f6rte, und ich vermute, Sie dachten wahrscheinlich dasselbe.<\/p>\n

EBay befindet sich derzeit in einer umfassenden \u00dcberarbeitung. Abkehr von Miet- und Leasinggeb\u00e4uden und Erwerb eigener Geb\u00e4ude, um die Effizienz besser kontrollieren zu k\u00f6nnen. Die Konsolidierung von 11 Rechenzentren an nur 3 Standorten und die Bereitstellung von Zehntausenden von Servern innerhalb eines Zeitraums von sechs Monaten war eine enorme Herausforderung f\u00fcr das Unternehmen.<\/p>\n

\u201eWir mussten eine organisatorische Anforderung erf\u00fcllen, um zu konsolidieren Daten Center<\/a> und die Bereitstellung von Zehntausenden neuer Server in weniger als sechs Monaten \u201c, so Dean Nelson, Senior Director f\u00fcr Global Foundation Services bei eBay. \u201eAls Teil dieses Prozesses wollten wir die Effizienz des Rechenzentrums auf den neuesten Stand bringen. EBay konnte beide Ziele erreichen, da wir einen metrikbasierten Ansatz f\u00fcr den Prozess gew\u00e4hlt haben. Dazu geh\u00f6rte, dass unsere Server- und Rechenzentrums-RFP-Prozesse PUE und TCO verwendeten, um unsere Lieferkette zu optimieren, modular, skalierbar und vorw\u00e4rts zu gehen Wir denken an das Design von Rechenzentren und richten uns von Anfang an nach dem DCMM von The Green Grid. \u201c<\/p>\n

Seit dem Start des Projekts Mercury hat sich EBay stark auf die Partnerschaft mit The Green Grid verlassen, um bei der Strategie und Entwicklung des neuesten Rechenzentrums zu helfen. \"Container<\/p>\n

Sie fragen sich wahrscheinlich immer noch, warum Phoenix als Standort f\u00fcr dieses Projekt ausgew\u00e4hlt wurde und nicht an einem Ort, an dem es kalt und kalt ist. Nun, das Projekt Mercury entstand aus der Notwendigkeit heraus, nicht aus dem Versuch, Grenzen zu \u00fcberschreiten oder einen Punkt zu beweisen. EBay hat das Rechenzentrum einfach in Arizona gebaut, weil es gebraucht wurde. Also, wie haben sie das gemacht, fragst du? Die L\u00f6sung bestand darin, die Anlage mit hei\u00dfem Wasser zu k\u00fchlen. EBay bef\u00fcrwortet die Idee, einige seiner Server mit h\u00f6heren Temperaturen als dem Industriestandard zu betreiben, und besteht darauf, dass Server bei Temperaturen \u00fcber 20 \u00b0 C einwandfrei funktionieren. Das in ihrem Au\u00dfentank enthaltene Wasser kann an den hei\u00dfesten Tagen des Sommers 22 \u00b0 C erreichen, aber selbst diese erstaunlich warme Temperatur ist k\u00fchl genug, um die W\u00e4rmetauscher zu betreiben, die die Server der Einrichtung auf betriebsf\u00e4higen Temperaturen halten.<\/p>\n

Mit einem PUE von 1,35 bei einer Auslastung von 30-40% auf den Servern hat EBay wenig zu bieten. Betrachtet man die Container einzeln, so lag ihr PUE im Januar bei 1,018 und stieg erst Mitte August auf 1,046, als die Au\u00dfentemperatur auf 115 \u00b0 F anstieg. Diese Zahlen sind in Anbetracht der Umgebung, in der sie sich befinden, unglaublich niedrig. Interessanterweise k\u00f6nnen bis zu 12 Container bei direkter Sonneneinstrahlung in Arizona drau\u00dfen auf dem Dach stehen und das Rechenzentrum kann weiterhin effizient arbeiten.<\/p>\n

Project Mercury hits home for two reasons: the first being more blatantly obvious, in the fact that the data center is located in our backyard, which is incredibly unusual given our extreme climate, and the second being that the facility uses ServerLIFT\u00ae<\/sup> server handling equipment to assist in the moving of their IT equipment.
